The Pedal 4 Poverty Cycling Challenge Champions!

We have been blown away by the incredible achievements of our Pedal 4 Poverty cyclists. By taking on the Pedal 4 Poverty 2024 challenge, our amazing supporters, their friends and families, have helped us to continue to break the cycle of poverty and challenge healthcare inequalities in Malawi, Nepal, India, Rwanda, Zambia and here in Scotland. Here are some of our supporters; we are so grateful to each and every one of our Pedal 4 Poverty 2024 champions!

John Bruce cycled an incredible 400 km over 5 days. To mark his retirement, John took on the Pedal 4 Poverty challenge, cycling from Kirkpatrick Way, Stranraer in the Southwest to Eyemouth in the East of Scotland. Here's John at the bike statue at the start of The Kirkpatrick Way, a replica of Kirkpatrick MacMillan’s invention of the first pedal driven bicycle!

Beryl Luke has supported EMMS International for many years. In 2001, she and her husband cycled the Three Seas from Sea of Galilee, via the Dead Sea to the Red Sea. And in 2006, they trekked almost 100 miles through the Sinai Desert! At 80-years-old and following two knee replacements, Beryl is still taking on incredible challenges for EMMS. She took on Pedal 4 Poverty and cycled an amazing 100 miles.

Loey Mak is a Global Women in Healthcare Awards 2024 participant, nominated for her work as Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Hong Kong and as a Specialist in Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Queen Mary Hospital, Hong Kong. Loey cycled for Pedal 4 Poverty in Hong Kong and told us, "The Pedal 4 Poverty initiative enhanced my motivation to top up my distance to 30 miles!"

Our Head of Communiations, Kirsty Nicholls, took on the 100-mile challenge and finished with the Loch Rannoch 10k. She says, "It doesn't matter how you cover the miles, as long as you're moving! Having a 10k planned for the end of my Pedal 4 Poverty challenge really helped me to achieve my goals. I'm so grateful to everyone who supported me and the vital work of EMMS International."
